So, grab your aprons, and let’s get cooking!
Quiche Lorraine
Like many recipes in France, the quiche, or more specifically, the quiche lorraine, has a longstanding history.
Dating back to medieval times, it originated in the Lorraine region at the border with Germany. The original quiche lorraine was a savory tart filled with eggs and bacon.
However, nowadays, French people have turned this rich and creamy delicacy into a versatile dish, adding a variety of toppings such as meat, seafood, or vegetables.
While we’re all about versatile dishes, we absolutely love the original quiche lorraine recipe. Here’s a great one to try with your children.
Ratatouille
Ratatouille originated in the Provence region in the southeast of France. Originally called ratatolha in Occitan (the local language in the Provence region during medieval times), this yummy Mediterranean-style vegetable stew is made with tomatoes, eggplant, zucchini, peppers, and onions.
Not only is it a delicious treat you can enjoy for lunch or dinner, but it’s also super healthy, encouraging your children to eat more veggies! Here’s one of our favorite ratatouille recipes.
Gratin Dauphinois
Now, in the category of insanely delicious dishes, gratin dauphinois comes up top if you ask us!
A simple and comforting dish made with sliced potatoes and cream, and topped with grated cheese, gratin dauphinois was invented in the southeastern region of Dauphiné in France in 1788 to celebrate the revolution against royalty!
This is a great recipe to make with kids because, under your supervision, they can help with peeling the potatoes and have lots of fun sprinkling the cheese on top!

Pain Perdu
If you and your children have a sweet tooth and love a decadent treat, you’re going to enjoy making pain perdu! Or, more specifically, eating it ;)
Pain perdu is a type of French toast made with slices of bread soaked in a mixture of eggs and milk and fried in butter until crispy and golden brown. It’s usually sprinkled with sugar and served for breakfast or brunch with syrup and fruit.
Your kids will love dipping the bread into the egg and milk mixture and watching it turn crispy as you fry it!

Croque-Monsieur
And last but not least, the famous croque-monsieur! Translated into Mr. Crunch in English due to its crunchy texture, a croque-monsieur is a creamy, savory sandwich made with ham and cheese and topped with a delicious béchamel sauce before being toasted.
While the croque-monsieur was originally considered a simple meal to whip up at home, it quickly became a popular dish served in the early 1900s in Parisian cafes and bistros. Nowadays, it’s one of the most iconic items of French cuisine.
